Cake Poll: Baking Vs. Eating Preferences

Cake Poll Time!
It's July, and high time for a sweet giveaway! This time, Carolyn's Kitchen, a very cool company which designs retro-inspired aprons and kitchen accessories, has kindly donated one of their fashionable aqua cupcake aprons (retail value $42!) for the giveaway. I hope I don't need to tell you that this is a totally awesome prize.

How do you put your name in the running? It's easy. Just satisfy my curiosity about sweet preferences. Is what you like to bake the same as what you like to eat? Or are they different? Just answer the following in the comments section below and you'll be entered in the running!

*Please note this giveaway is only open to US Residents. The Cake Poll will close on Monday, July 6 at 12 p.m. PST, and the winner will be contacted for their size/address/info shortly thereafter. If you'd like to shop at Carolyn's Kitchen in the meantime, click here!

  • What is your favorite baked good or dessert to make?
  • What is your favorite baked good or dessert to eat?

Good luck!

CAKE POLL UPDATE: WE HAVE A WINNER! Christina of the lovely and amazing blog She Runs, She Eats was chosen at random from over 350 entrants (between emailed responses and comments). Thank you to everyone who entered!

I recently made salted caramel cupcakes - so fun to make. I made them for my boyfriend's mom's birthday, she loves caramel. Call me crazy, but I definitely am not a caramel fan. I loved making these because they were complicated enough to feel accomplished when they were done, but nothing so complicated that my recreational baking skills couldn't pass the test. To eat? I particularly enjoy a cupcake straight out of the oven - no frosting. I usually eat enough frosting as is, so the lone cupcake is always enjoyable.

I love to make easy bars with a cake mix, but I love to eat fresh doughnuts.

I love to eat creme brulee, haven't yet tried to make it. I like to bake anything with peanut butter, especially my peanut butter pie!

I love to bake anything sweet. I love to make others happy! Cupcakes is my thing and cupcakes I will bring. I do love all these fun and pretty treats but eating too much make me not so fun and pretty when I try to get in my jeans :)

I've been on a scone kick lately... I love to bake them and eat them :-)

I love to make "cowboy cookies" (chocolate chips, pecans and coconut), because this is a recipe my Mom made when I was small.

My favorite baked good to eat is true Key Lime Pie. It must have a baked crust and be yellow, not green. There is not juice in creation-at least, that I'm aware of-that is that vile color of green that is often used!

I love to bake cupcakes because I like the way people smile when they see them. They are adorable & personal- and can wrap up a wonderful themed dinner party time and time again. There's a cupcake for every season!

I love eating cookies. It becomes a problem when I decide each batch needs tasting- just to "make sure" they are turning out perfectly. Whoops...

Most of the time when I bake something, it's due to a craving. I love to make brownies or cookie bars, because it's easy and oh so delicious!

But I will eat just about any sweet or dessert I can get my hands on. With a sweet tooth as big as mine, I am not picky. ;)

Love making cakes and cupcakes, but I like eating a lot of other stuff that I can't make, like pies!

Baking: Cookies
Eating: Cookies

It's a win/win!

I love making cookies and cupcakes. I especially love making chocolate chip cookies. My mom makes THE BEST chocolate chip cookies in the world. Mine are pretty close...
To eat, I love cookies and cupcakes, but I can be picky, especially with cookies, in grocery stores and bakeries. I guess I'm just spoiled by mom's! But I can always go for ice cream!

Hmm that's a hard one maybe an easier one would be what I don't like to eat and bake!

I guess my favorite thing to eat would be cheesecake with caramel and chocolate. and my favorite thing to bake is cookies because they don't take long to make!

This is actually a great question because there are lots of things I like to make that I just don't eat. I LOVE making strawberry jam, even though I don't eat strawberries. The kitchen smells yummy and everyone loves to get a jar of the stuff, but when it comes to what I want, it would have to my my mother's drunken chocolate cherry cake. Yum! I guess that means I like to eat the stuff I don't make :D

I love making cupcakes. Although recently, I've been on a big bars kick (brownies, blondies, etc).

My fav thing to eat would have to be anything chocolate. I love chocolate cake with chocolate frosting!

I love making cupcakes. So fun, and easy! But I love eating chocolate chip cookies. Really, really good ones! Oh, and that apron is so stinkin' adorable!

I love making cupcakes, especially to take to special events. I love people's reactions--it's hard not to smile when you're eating a cupcake.

My favorite dessert to eat is probably anything made by my mother, but especially her pies (apple, peach, lemon meringue, it really doesn't matter what kind, they're all delicious).

I love to make cheesecake and I love to eat creme brulee or fresh fruit pie.

my favorite things to eat and bake are actually the same! HOMEMADE PEACH COBBLER...with fresh, ripe peaches, of course :)

My favorite thing to make are Cowboy aka Everything Cookies. You just make the basic cookie dough and then throw in whatever you have. No measuring necessary!

But I must say my favorite thing to eat is a good chocolate cupcake. I love breaking it in half and making a little sandwich with the icing in the middle. Deeeeelicious!

My favorite thing to bake is also my favorite thing to eat: fruit pie. There's something artisanal about baking fruit pie, a curious chemistry that occurs when pastry meets sugared fruit, melting into slabs of come-togetherness. I use vinegar in my pie crust for that extra flaky touch, btw. Okay, now I'm hungry for a piece'a pie!

I love to bake simple things like brownies in the convection oven or cupcakes baked in my Mother's little Italian ceramic pots.

My favorite baked things to eat are shortcake with fresh fruit and cream or always, always white cake with buttercream icing. YUM

I love Cakespy!!

I love baking cakes, and eating pies :)

I would have to say that my favorite dessert to make is a tie between rum balls (a truffle) and chocolate chip cookies. I love to make CCC's because it's a time my boyfriend and I can share together-he helps me make them and then we eat the dough together. Rum balls are fun because they're messy, yummy, and easy. I guess if I had to pick one in particular, it'd be the cookies.

My favorite dessert to eat is Cheesecake. It's delicious topped with strawberries or done with Godiva chocolate and raspberries.
