Hot Dogs for Dessert at Snacks! in Ballard, Seattle
Monday, June 15, 2009
When CakeSpy buddy Megan tipped us off about Snacks!, a new bodega in Ballard opened by Dante (of Dante's Inferno hot dog cart fame), we knew we had to hit it up. But why would Cake Gumshoes want to check out a bodega in an alley behind a bar, you ask?
No, seriously. Per myballard.com, Dante has "created a 'Chilly Dog' that is a hot dog bun with soft serve ice cream, his idea of an ice cream sandwich (served with a spork.)" OK, so there's not an actual hot dog in it. But still, it's a fun idea...sort of like a choco taco, but with a hot dog bun instead of a chocolate tortilla.

Oh I was half expecting reverse food, you know, desserts that look like mains and mains that look like dessert?
I think they stole the idea from Krispy Kreme. They have this thing called a Kool Dog (Krispy Kreme in Tacoma area off I-5 only), it's your coice of either a maple or chocolate raised bar, cut lengthwise like a hot dog bun, then they lay a log of soft serve down the middle, and I must confess the soft serve is some of the best I've ever had, must me made with whole creme, very rich treat but worth the stomach ache.

Nickolas: Ooh, trashy dessert scandal!! Is a taste-off in order?? ;-) Hope we'll see you (very) soon!
Snacks! is such a cute name and I love the idea of a high-end 7-11. Not sure about ice cream in a hot dog bun though.
THat sounds interesting! I think it's a cute and unique idea and probably works pretty well for marketing purposed.. It draws people in. What will they think of next?
