Cake Poll: How Do You Eat A Cupcake?

Win them!
Musing over methods of snack-eating is practically an American pastime. There have been ad campaigns centered on how people eat Reese's Peanut Butter Cups; there have been studies on the characteristics associated with various methods of Oreo-eating.

But now, it's time to attack the sweetest treat of all: the cupcake. Tell us how you eat yours in the comment section, and you'll be entered to win a completely awesome prize pack, which will include:

-------------------------------

How do you eat yours?
How do you eat yours?
Do you eat it with a knife and fork, pinkies out?
Do you tear it in half and discard the bottom so as to increase the frosting-to-cake ratio?
Do you invert it, sandwich-style, to keep your fingers free of frosting?
Do you eat yours with a spoon, served in a dish of milk?
...Or do you just dig in?
Can't wait to read your responses! A winner will be chosen at random shortly after the cake poll closes at noon (12 p.m. PST) on Friday, May 15.

Just pull back the liner and dig in! The only time I use a fork is if it's a huge cupcake, or I'm sharing and not trying to eat too much. Or that time I went to Sprinkles and just really wanted to use their cute wooden spoons.

With the traditional cupcake, I oh-so-carefully peel off the liner and then dig in. No forks, no turning back. When I'm done, I let my cat lick the frosting off my fingers. He loves frosting even more than I do!

If I have a minute to myself I eat it with a fork in the liner. If I have 10 seconds then I just go for it rip off the paper and eat it at fast as I possible can before someone tries to steal it.

I usually take the bottom half and eat that first (I'm not "discarding" perfectly good cake!), and then eat the top with all the frosting.

It first begins with a tiny lick of the frosting- to make sure it tastes good. Then with the tips of my thumb and index finger, I ever so carefully pinch one of the cupcake paper folds. Then pull gently, but carefully so as to keep the paper intact. Once the paper is pulled from the side, I then gently peel from the bottom. And then comes the first luscious bite. The first bite is crucial. It will dictate the rest of the cupcake eating experience. I have to be sure I have taken an enormous bite so that I can then proceed to nibble around the edges, but being sure a bit of frosting is in each bite. Once the entire cupcake has been consumed, I pick any remaining cake crumbs from the liner and then fold the liner in half and then into a triangle.

That is how I roll.

In public (at trophy or cupcake royale) I peel off the wrapper and then use a spoon to politely scoop a bite. At home, I take off the wrapper and use my hands licking my fingers the whole way through!

I DO break it in half and make it into a sandwish, but it's not for tidiness - I am a bigger fan of cake than icing, so I try to minimize the how much it coats my mouth.... I just like cake :)

I try to eat my cupcakes bottom-first so that there's more frosting left for the rest. Also, so they'll fit in my mouth, which isn't very tall! :)

I remove the entire liner - and sometimes - get rid of the frosting. (ducking) I'm just really more of a cake person. ;)

I lick the frosting off, then peel the liner off and eat the cake

I give the frosting a big lick (bc that's the most important part... gotta taste that first), and then I break it in half and chow down.

I dive right in! Yum!

I may eat my cupcakes in a boring fashion (peel the liner half way off and take a huge bite), but I certainly savor every single bite!

how i might eat such a confection as a cupcake?

step 1: take cupcake in all it's glory and slowly peel wrapper off to ensure the most frosting and cake is left to be eaten.

step 2: study cupcake quizzically and asses the best route to take at the time. results usually in me eating the bottom first and slowly making my way up to the top with the frosting. this is done in a very careful and calm manner.

step 3: devour

I double fist eating cupcakes: one in each hand of different flavors taking a bite out of each.

I peel away half of the wrapper and fold it under the cake. I open my jaw up as much as I can and attempt to take a bite that gets a perfect frosting to cake ratio. I continue that way until the last bite, where I use the wrapper to pop it into my mouth. :)

I unwrap and flip the whole thing over (hold between forefinger and thumb just under (now above) the frosting line) and nibble the bottom, then flip back over and enjoy the pile of icing that is now on a thin layer of cake. Yums.

I like to eat the bottom "cup" part first, and then eat the top, getting about the perfect cupcake to frosting ratio. Works everytime!!!

I just dig right in! I live in India, so the only actual cupcakes I eat are ones I make - and they have no paper liners! So I just take a big, icing+cake bite, and get my teeth all stained. Hee.

I eat all the frosting and then give the cake to my mom. She isn't huge on frosting and I don't really like (eating) cake (I love to -make- cakes) We're the perfect team!

May 13 | Unregistered CommenterCassykins

I use my fingers, eat the bottom first, then eat the top around in circles!

I lick the icing off and then eat the cupcake...that way I'm not getting icing on my nose. Plus, icing is my favorite part of cake...:P

Sandwich-style, totally. Best way to do it-- then there's not a frosting-less bite in the whole cupcake.

May 13 | Unregistered CommenterBrit

I peel off the wrapper and try and get a big bite that incorporates both frosting and cake!!!! Mmm!

May 13 | Unregistered CommenterLauren

It depends on the cupcake! I've made mini cupcakes that were meant to be eaten all in one bite and other minis that were meant to be nibbled. If it's one of Carrie/Fields of Cake's massively awesome cupcakes, I share with my boyfriend, but try to eat as much filling as I can. In general I try to get a good balance of cake and frosting in each bite, though.
