Cake Poll: Let Me Eat Cake!

Giveaway: Let Me Eat Cake!
Do you love cake?

Do you really love cake?
Do you love cake so much that whenever you're in the same room, you find yourself unable to resist its siren call?
Then certainly Leslie F. Miller's new book, Let Me Eat Cake, is for you. Now, let's get it straight--though the book has a few recipes, that's not what it's about--it's more about the culture of cake, its lure and the lore behind it, baked up full of personal anecdotes and cake stories galore. And--as we were surprised and delighted to discover--there's even a mention of CakeSpy.com!

I found myself in Leslie's book!
And you, dear friend, could be the winner of a signed copy of the book. Oh, you want this!
To put your name in the running, simply answer this question in the comments. You can be as literal or as figurative as you like, just be sure to leave your thoughts on this important subject:
What is the best thing about cake?

The poll will be closed on Monday at 12 p.m. PST, and the winner will be announced shortly thereafter. If you're interested in purchasing the book, click here. Oh, and in case you were interested, the cupcake shown is a Chai Cardamom cupcake from Seattle's Trophy Cupcakes!

Oh my lord... the best thing about cake. Cake is classic (and classy!). Cake is the base for the fancy, frilly international desserts and the bubble-gum pink-frosted cupcakes of birthday parties. Not to mention, cake is freaking delicious.

The best thing about cake for me is that I can't be unhappy when I'm eating cake! Instant happiness.

The best thing about cake? Cake is tasty and beautiful and brings out the child inside of you! I love seeing how my kids love cake. And yet it can be sophiscated (i.e. wedding cakes). Cake has so many dimensions!!

Thanks for this chance to win this book.

Where do I start?

Cake is something that can't be easily defined. It can be present at ANY meal (as a muffin for breakfast, cornbread for lunch and dinner, and of course sweet cakes and cupcakes for dessert). It can be sweet, it can be savory, or salty, or even bitter depending on what you need from it. Its versitile, able to go vegan to decadently rich.

I can eat cake all day long and not be tired of it.

Cake is life.

Definitely the sweet, moist crumb!

oh god, favorite thing about cake.

what's there not to love about cake?

if i had to narrow it down and really think about it, my favorite thing about cake (literally) would have to be the part right under the frosting plus the frosting, because the cake's so moist and frosting is THE BEST. f'real.

and that's mine.

The best thing about cake is that it can be endlessly personalized...cake can literally be anything, so your imagination(and motivation!) are your only limits.

The best thing about cake is when you are eating a two layer cake and you get to the bite that includes a small piece of the top cake, a small piece of the bottom cake, some frosting from the middle and some frosting from the side... that's the best thing about cake.

The best thing about cake is the smell while it is baking...Mmmmm! 2nd best beautiful cake designs!

Thanks for the chance!

The best thing about cake is that perfect 1/4" below the frosting where everything is moist and delicious...the perfect ratio of crumb and frosting...

For me, the best thing about cake is the process of making it. The sifting of the dry ingredients; the alternating of the wet and dry...just making it light and fluffy.

I also LOVE it when people enjoy what I have made.

The best thing about cake..... first it's the tempting aroma that draws you in... then it's that first moist bite... mmmm!

Cake is one of the few consistent purveyors of happiness. Like the warmth of thick blankets and songs for 99 cents, cake is a comforting indulgence that's there through life's little curveballs.

The best thing about cake is when it's in my stomach.

The best thing about cake is getting the perfect ratio of cake to frosting... usually that half-bite from between the layers that is like a cake sandwich! Mmm, cake!

Cake is art and creativity in a form that, once it touches the tongue, melts into deliciousness....ahhh...cake...

I am THE Mistress of Cakes...so I pretty sure I love 'em! What do I like best? You ask that of me and you are going to get a book on this comment page. I can't say everything (because I don't have a dishwasher...do the math). I love licking the beater blades...especially if I am being sneaky. The second best thing...when that aroma starts to come out of the oven and your hear footsteps coming in to investigate it. Its like on the cartoons with the hand beckoning in the character (which makes them float through the air to the oven..OF COURSE!). Third is when my stepson (who is a super serious sixteen year old) comes running in to sneak a lick of the frosting and then runs out so I can't smack him with the fly swatter. Probably more than you asked for lol..but there you go!

The best thing about cake is how much you can do with it. Cupcake, big cake, so many flavor combos. And the yummy smooshyness of cake and frosting smooshed together.

The best thing about cake is when my husband makes it for me...Especially his coconut cake for my birthday.

April 9 | Unregistered CommenterAnnie

Oooh that first bite is the best! The spongy, springy texture, and how it starts to breakdown in your mouth and all the flavors of the cake start to mix with the frosting...oh yeah.

April 9 | Unregistered CommenterJayme Duke

No matter how old you are or where you are it has the power to bring a smile to you face - and this is before you take the first bite.

April 9 | Unregistered CommenterEliana

The best thing about cake is that it is SO versatile! Cute decorated cupcakes that my daughter (who is 6) makes are the very best though!

People gathering around my table to EAT cake. Oh, and the look on my three-year-old's face as I bring it to the table. Ah, bliss.

April 9 | Unregistered CommenterMyrnie

Oh my goodness...that's really difficult ans easy at the same time. The best thing about cake is the silky tenderness yet it is very strong being able to hold all the other goodies we tend to put on it. But mostly it's the aroma of it baking. Honestly, if the cake is made right, it doesn't even need frosting. It's the complex yet that simple.
