Cake Byte: Sweet News from Cakespy

Cuppies at Pike Place
Looking to add a little sweetness to your life this July? Well, if you happen to be in Seattle, head over to Ballard--there are not one but two Cakespy Art Shows up this month!

Cupcakes, in acrylicMulti Layer Cake, in AcrylicCupcakes in AcrylicLemon Cake in Acrylic
The first option is Sweet Posie, which is tucked behind Anchor Tattoo near the intersection of Market and 24th--it's one of the tiniest and cutest little cafes we've ever seen, and they have killer Red Velvet Cupcakes. And all through July, they have original Acrylic paintings by our dear Head Spy Jessie! A bit of a change of pace, but the lovely texture of acrylic paint is so tantalizingly like frosting to work with--and it's clear from these delicious paintings! Sweet Posie Cafe, 2315 N.W. Market St. Seattle, WA 98105. Phone: 206-784-0303. Hours: 6 a.m.-6 p.m. weekdays; online at sweetposie.com.

Cakespy Art at Venue!Cuppies looking at Magazines
The second option is Venue, an awesome art gallery and retail space just off of Old Ballard Avenue. Cakespy original watercolors (featuring the beloved  and mischievous L'il Cuppie character) are available at Venue's retail store, but this month Cakespy is the featured artist. What does that mean? That means you should get over to Ballard this Saturday evening for the Art Walk--a bunch of the Cakespy crew will be on hand, as will heaps of cupcakes and freely flowing wine! If that doesn't sound like a good time, we don't know what does. Venue, 5408 22nd Ave. NW, Seattle, WA 98107; online at venueballard.com.

Good luck with your sale! I just sent off two of your cards this morning.

OMG...a cupcake butcher selling pigs to market-goers! hahahahaha

Ricki: Thanks!! I wish you could come too!!

Justjenn: Come back and visit! :-)

Dana: Yay! I hope they spread some sweetness to the recipients!!

Amanda: Ha! That's Rachel the pig (the market's mascot). Actually I was recently surprised to learn that a bunch of markets like that (like the Reading Market in Philadelphia) have mascots! Who'd a thunk it??

You need to take your show on the road - come north young woman!!!! I know what you're doing is so much work but I'm so intrigued by it all.

A great butcher shop in Toronto (that tragically close a little while ago) had three pig statues in its window: two were carrying a stretcher between them, like in MASH-style army days, while wearing aprons, and a third pig was lying all on the stretcher with its trotters crossed and one hand crooked behind its head. No cupcakes though...

I could eat those pictures.

i'm sending over all my seattle comrades (two of which live in ballard) over to check out your new paintings!~ and i can't believe you have a book out...i'm so excited for you. yeah!!!

Since there are a million comments on the entry above this one, I'll leave my RE: here...

The Barefoot Contessa cake mix definitely did not have that artificial cake mix taste. It tasted like a homemade poundcake. I think the orange zest is the reason behind that. I can't really compare it to typical cheaper cake mixes because they're totally different... and because I have a secret love for that artificial butter flavor in Betty Crocker yellow cake mix! ;)

Love the Pike Place art - in fact, it's my new background on my computer. It certainly makes me smile... =)

This is my first visit (I just missed the poll *sad*) but I thought I'd tell you how much I love your work! Congratulations on your first book.
