salted caramel. Doesnt seem very daring, but it was so good.

Sarah said...

I'm pretty boring... I had a dark chocolate and chipotle one with a dulce de leche swirl once that I made, and I recently did some black sesame seed ones too.

I haven't tried anything unusual, but I would think strawberry/raspberry jalepeno cream cheese cupcake would be yummy! =)

Now it is quite common, but a year ago I tasted for the first time a bacon, chocolate and jalapeƱo cupcake..it wasn't bad but I would prefer plain chocolate...

The Yellow Leaf Cupcake Co in Seattle makes a Tomato Soup cupcake that is supposed to be amazing, but they didn't have it the last time I went in. Still, it's the one flavour that's intrigued me lately and I'm definitely going to try it soon :)

Someone had a broccoli one on a website I was browsing recently. Hmmm, not sure about that one!

I had a bacon chocolate cupcake at Tee & Cakes in Boulder, CO. It wasn't that unusual tasting though. They have a beer batter cupcake with salted caramel frosting I've been dying to try though!

Avocado and dark chocolate. I've never had it, but I'm thinking it might be a good combination. Of course, I could also be dead wrong =)

Probably the weirdest cupcake I've tasted is a chocolate mojito cupcake...or the one I made last week that had mozzarella buttercream!

Anna said...

I stick to normal flavors, but I am both intrigued and disgusted by cupcakes that include bacon as a flavor. Everyone knows that bacon makes everything better, but a cupcake? Really?

I made a chocolate cupcake+avocado icing before. It was pretty darn good! Avocados are used a lot in sweet Asian desserts so I am use to the flavor but some of my taste testers were iffy on it. HA HA. Thanks for hosting this fun giveaway! Hope I win :)

Hannah said...

So technically, this wasn't a cupcake, but a bundt cake, but I think it should count because it's all cake. Anyway, it was a white chocolate-golden beet cake. Yeah, one of the worst things I've ever made.

i was a judge in a local cupcake competition and one of the entries was a french toast cupcake with maple syrup buttercream topped with bacon. unfortunately it sounded much better than it tasted!!

the cupcakes i would love so much to try is by "whiskie bits" in oakland, california-- i've only seen her cupcakes online but the flavours sound soooo awesome. "heirloom tomato" -- heirloom tomato cake, lemon, mediterranean spices with Italian basil-lemon mascarpone cream cheese frosting.

WHUT! so awesome!!!!

Ivy said...

I haven't tried anything too unusual yet... I keep eyeing the menu at Trophy Cupcakes for something different to try, though. I'm not adventurous enough to try making something unusual, in case I don't like it and am stuck with a 2 dozen cupcakes.

"The Artist" said...

I would say that the most unsual cupcake flavor I've had was a S'mores cupcake - matcha cupcakes were normal, as were roasted vanilla matcha but this s'mores cupcake was something else. A cream-filled vanilla cake with chocolate frosting toasted marshmallow and salty graham crumbs on top - it was amazing!

Abbybobabbyfeefifofabby said...

I don't know if this is that unusual, but I've had an amazing Margarita cupcake.

That maple bacon cupcake sounds delicious! I'll have to keep my eye out...

Elaine said...

I've never had any weird cupcake flavors, but I think it'd be neat to try a margarita cupcake.

Kathryn E. said...

Not too many wacky cupcake combos my way . . . not too many cupcake shops, either :(

I stick to pretty simple cupcakes usually, so the most adventurous I've gotten is ginger-lime with lime/cardamom icing.

But I'd love to try a something spicy-sweet, like the second poster mentioned, a Mexican hot-cocoa chocolate cupcake with cayenne 'n cinnamon frosting.

Or given the amazing ability of ground black pepper to pep up an apple pie (pun intended, sorry), I'd dive into some sort of black pepper-apple cupcake with maybe a creamcheese frosting. (and fresh pepper ground on top!)
