The Sweet 100

Custom request, food pyramid in color
Recently, a website called Very Good Taste started something of an internet fire with a list called "The Omnivore's Hundred", which listed 100 foods which "every good omnivore should have tried at least once in their life." We liked the idea, and inspired by the vegan variation on Hannah Kaminsky's site, we thought--why not make our own Sweet 100!? Like the original, our list includes "fine food, strange food, everyday food and even some pretty bad food"--but in our universe, it's all sweet! (In case any of them are foreign to you, links to pictures and recipes are included; also, for any vegans, feel free to go through the list assuming it's a vegan counterpart). How many have you tried? If you'd like, feel free to follow the same guidelines:

1) Copy this list into your site, including the instructions!
2) Bold all of the sweets you've eaten--or make them a different type color.
3) Cross out any of them that you'd never ever eat.
4) Consider anything that is not bold or crossed out your "To Do" List.
5) Optional: Post a comment here linking to your results--or just post a comment letting us know how many you've tried, or what you're going to try next!

Well, I miserably fail at the Omnivore's 100, but I think I'd have a passing score on this one!!

Great list! I've had 75 out of 100. Looks like there is still a lot for me to try!

Sarah said...

I love it. I am so glad you included links so we can figure out what everything is (I had to google a lot on the Omnivore's list...).
My only problem with these lists is that it makes me sad and restless because there is so much out there that I still haven't tried!!

Wandering Coyote said...

I got 57% and my list is now up!

This is such fun! Although, it's a little scary to see how many of these I've actually eaten. ;)

Wow, this must have been a lot of work. Awesome list, so many things I've never heard of that I now feel I must try! I think I scored fifty eight, but I'm not sure now. I decided to also italicize the things I had made, just to liven things up a little more ;)

What! No Little Debbie Cakes?

Do you allow substitutions? Green tea ice cream for green tea cookies? Is there a charge?

I'll post this on my blog so I don't break the chain:

I was pleasantly surprised...On my blog I scored a 62 on the Sweet 100 and 51 on the Omnivore 100...I didn't realize I was such a foodie!

Wandering Coyote said...

I've had to edit mine again, because I've actually had lots of Mexican Wedding cakes, I just didn't know that's what they were called. So, I'm up to 57 now. I'll have a British 100 up on Tuesday!

Here is my list.

sara angel said...

49/100. better than i was expecting! i'm going to try buckeyes next.

Stephanie said...

I've tried 43 of the desserts. I have no clue what I am making next. Donuts seem very tempting thought!

lyndsay said...

49/100!!! when i first scanned the list i thought i was going to do more poorly, but not bad! this list is so brilliant. what about red bean soup--- a chinese dessert soup! when we were kids we looked upon it with painful dismay, and another chinese friend of mine would take it home and freeze it into fudgesicle-like things. now i love red bean, present in many asian desserts. i love that daifuku is on the list!

Katie said...

I thought I would maybe break 50 but 63 items it is. Not to bad I think. I will have to find some of the other ones to try.

Y said...

Oh cool! I was wondering when someone would come up with this list :D

Tartelette said...

I have never had a Brooklyn Egg Cream and a Daifuku.
I just love the pyramid drawing btw!

Vanessa Contessa said...

I'm for 53 out of 100 and there are 3 I'd probably never try. Not too bad I guess... I'm now on a mission to try them all! I do have to say I have a 101th entry. Everyone in the world must try a Berger cookie in their lifetime. You can only find them in Baltimore, MD; but they are a necessary and intrinsic part of civilized sweet tooth society!

Cakespy said...

Vanessa!! OMG! Good entry!! I only recently tried them: http://www.cakespy.com/2008/08/berger-hold-fries-baltimores-famous.html

I've eaten 71 out of the 100. I have severe nut allergies, so I think I've done pretty well for myself. I really want to try clotted cream. I can't believe I haven't tried it yet...

Jennette said...

I've eaten between 54 and 71. There were some things on the list that I'm pretty sure I ate as a kid (we went to a lot of potlucks, fairs, etc.) but have no specific memory of.

Some of these are challenging to those of us with food allergies--especially the prepared-food items like Moon Pies. But I've taken a crack at it in The Soy-free Kitchen:

Oh HOW FUN! I love the pyramid - soooo cute. Although I get a "D" as a grade, that's just good news for what's to come! Check out my list :) Nothing is crossed out - NOTHING!
